What is counselling?

The counselling process facilitates the client's understanding of their inner world and the world around them, which in turn enables them to use a broader perspective in resolving conflicts which are creating debilitating symptoms for them.

The counselling relationship is characterised by confidentiality, voluntary participation and a mutually agreed contract.  Clients are encouraged and supported in taking some responsibility for their lives which enables them to feel they have choices.  The counsellor facilitates the process by helping the clients to realise their own potential for problem solving and psychological growth, which enables clients to identify unmet needs and work towards getting needs met.
